What is basalt?

Basalt is one of the volcanic rock mass that is dark grey to black in colour and in investigation masses state. Basalt is available in nature as bulk, lode and stream. One of the main features is to create large columns in the form of hexagonal prisms. These columns resulted by cooling and shrinking of magma flows. Basalt is strong and durable stone

Application areas:

Basalt in different thickness and sizes is used in every stage of architecture like infrastructure, superstructure, floor covering, facing, urban roads, pavements, sidewalks and garden arranging. Also, taking physical and mechanical properties into consideration, different doses ratios of broken basalt is used as aggregate in concrete composition.

The rock wool that is obtained from basalt is used in the floor and wall insulation of all kind of ships and other structures built in the sea. Also the rock wool is used in fire doors due to its resistance to high temperature. İn addition, it is used in boiler rooms, air conditioning equipments, flue gas modules and roof insulation. Due to the least effects of abrasion and climatic conditions, basalt is preferred as a leading natural stone. İt is know for certain that in the short run Basalt will be indispensable and use of it will daily expanding.

Technological and scientific developments provide people desire to live in more calm and natural environment. İn recent years, in our country, especially in major cities and tourist regions, natural stone has been used both in structures and indoor and outdoor areas.

Basalt has been used in Roma roads for 2200 years without any intact. İn terms of long continuance there is no alternative to basalt. Today, narrow and tortuous streets and bridges of Rome laid with natural paving stones are still used by modern motor vehicles. With methods of stone pavement, it is used for preventing overspeed in Europe urban roads. The other reason of the use parquetry is that it does not need aqueduct.

İn our country water gathers on the surface of roads because asphalt roads are waterproof. Then puddles occur, dust combined with water creates mud. From time to time mud can lead to blockage in sewer pipes. And that leads to great expences.
